Young British Readers’ Engagement with Manga
This project explores young British readers’ engagement with manga regarding literary, aesthetic, social, and cultural dimensions. I investigated how children interpreted manga, with respect to the artistic techniques, the embedded ideologies, and the cultural elements therein. I also looked into children’s participation in manga fandom and its social meanings. This project tries to answer the following questions:
- What engages young British readers with manga in terms of literary and aesthetic qualities?
- How do readers respond to manga, both cognitively and affectively?
- What are the social and cultural dimensions of young British readers’ engagement with manga?
